Qualcomm releases 4nm Snapdragon AR2 Gen1 chip with less than 1W power consumption!

        On November 17, Qualcomm announced the launch of Snapdragon AR2 Gen1, the world's first mobile chip dedicated to augmented reality platforms, and launched Qualcomm's next-generation CPU core, Oryon, which will unlock more stylish and high-performance AR glasses in future products. Snapdragon AR2 Gen1 optimized the end point of AR glasses at the beginning of the design, including a 40% reduction in PCB area, but the AI performance of the entire platform is increased by 2.5 times, power consumption is reduced by 50%, and even AR glasses with power consumption of less than 1 watt can be realized. Products to meet users' long-term wear needs.
        As part of Qualcomm's augmented reality products, the first-generation Snapdragon AR2 is manufactured on a 4nm process and uses a distributed multi-chip processing architecture and custom IP modules, including an AR processor, an AR coprocessor, and a connectivity platform. Based on the 40% reduction in the main processor footprint compared to the previous first-generation Snapdragon XR2 platform, the AR performance of the first-generation Snapdragon AR2 is 2.5 times higher, while reducing power consumption by 50%, and enabling AR glasses to achieve less than 1W power consumption.
As an AR processor, the first-generation Snapdragon AR2 supports up to nine simultaneous cameras for user and environmental understanding. At the same time, its perception performance such as hardware acceleration engine, AI accelerator, and reprojection engine has also been improved. The platform includes an AR coprocessor that can support eye tracking and iris authentication for visually focused rendering by aggregating camera and sensor data. In terms of connectivity, the first-generation Snapdragon AR2 platform integrates the Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 connection system and supports Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. Officials say it can reduce the time between AR glasses and the end point of the phone or host to less than 2 milliseconds.
        In addition to the first-generation Snapdragon AR2 platform, Qualcomm also released the second-generation Qualcomm S5 audio platform and the second-generation Qualcomm S3 audio platform. Both support Snapdragon Sound Qualcomm Hear technology and are optimized for the second-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, supporting dynamic spatial audio, lossless music streaming, 48ms low latency, LE Audio, and Qualcomm's third-generation adaptive active noise reduction technology.
