On January 4th, Qualcomm today announced the launch of the Snapdragon Ride Flex System-on-Chip (SoC), bringing the latest products to the Snapdragon digital chassis portfolio. Qualcomm said that the Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC is designed to support hybrid critical-level workloads across heterogeneous computing resources, with a single SoC supporting digital cockpit, ADAS and AD functions simultaneously.

According to reports, in order to achieve the highest level of automotive safety, the Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC implements isolation, interference-free and quality of service (QoS) functions for specific ADAS functions at the hardware architecture layer, and built-in automotive safety integrity level D (ASIL-D) Dedicated safety island. At the same time, the Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC's pre-integrated software platform supports simultaneous operation of multiple operating systems, and meets the needs of driver assistance safety systems through isolated virtual machines and real-time operating system (OS) support hypervisors supporting Automotive Open Systems Architecture (AUTOSAR)., hybrid critical-level workload requirements for configured digital dashboards, infotainment systems, driver monitoring systems and parking assistance systems.
Qualcomm noted that the Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC comes pre-integrated with the Snapdragon Ride Vision software stack, which meets regulatory requirements with forward-looking cameras and enhances perception with multimodal sensors (multiple cameras, radar, lidar, and maps) to create vehicle surroundings Model for incoming vehicle control algorithms. The Snapdragon Ride Vision software stack complies with New Vehicle Evaluation Specification (NCAP) requirements and the European Union Automotive General Safety Regulation (GSR) and can be scaled up to support higher levels of autonomous driving.

In addition, the Snapdragon Ride Flex Series SoCs are compatible with a broader portfolio of SoCs covered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Digital Chassis Platform. The Snapdragon Ride Flex Series SoCs are optimized for scalability and support top-of-the-line central computing systems from entry-level to high-end. This feature enables automakers to realize complex cockpit use cases such as integrated dashboards that support immersive high-end graphics, infotainment and gaming displays, and rear entertainment screens, while creating an ultra-low-latency-based audio experience with pre-integrated Snapdragon Ride vision software stack. Snapdragon Ride Flex SoCs can be developed using cloud-native automotive software development workflows, including support for virtual platform emulation, which can be integrated as part of cloud-native DevOps and machine learning operations (MLOps) infrastructures.
It is understood that the first Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC has now been sampled and is expected to start mass production in 2024. Data shows that Qualcomm Technologies' integrated vehicle platform (including the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, the Snapdragon Automotive Intelligent Connection Platform and the Snapdragon Ride Platform) is continuing to drive business growth, and the total value of the company's automotive business orders has exceeded $30 billion.
