Qualcomm 2023 will be Lowered to Low-end Cell Phone SoC Chip

        According to a recent report on the global smartphone AP (application processor) market for the third quarter of 2023 published by market research firm Counterpoint Research, Qualcomm trails MediaTek's 35 percent market share with 31 percent market share.
 
 
        Qualcomm's market share grew 2% sequentially in Q3 2022, although Qualcomm's shipments will decline in Q4 2022, mainly due to global macroeconomic conditions, slowing consumer goods purchases and weak demand from Chinese OEMs. The inventory adjustment also affects the high-end market.
        Qualcomm's price cut is most likely aimed at de-stocking, although industry insiders are concerned that it could be the start of a price war between entry-level and mid-range cell phone SoCs in the smartphone market.
        Qualcomm's move is currently unclear, but the slowdown in demand for mid-range and entry-level handsets will generally enhance the market's price sensitivity, and could also drive the possibility of MediaTek prices.
        Counterpoin Vice President Peter Richardson has said that annual smartphone shipments are unlikely to return to pre-epidemic levels in the near term, given the increase in ASP and longer replacement cycles; replacement cycles are expected to reach a record high of 43 months this year. Although the replacement cycle will gradually shorten starting next year, it will remain above 40 months.
