ROHM (headquartered in Kyoto, Japan), a leading global semiconductor manufacturer, has developed a step-down DC-DC converter IC*1 "BD9S402MUF-C" for increasingly complex in-vehicle applications such as ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and infotainment systems, including in-vehicle sensors and cameras. ".
In recent years, in the automotive field, the demand for safety performance has increased with innovations in accident prevention and autonomous driving technologies. At the same time, SoCs and microcontrollers that control ADAS systems, including in-vehicle sensors and cameras, are becoming increasingly complex (higher current for higher processing power and lower voltage for power saving), requiring the power supply ICs that supply power to them to operate more stably even under the harsh conditions of fluctuating load currents. To meet the characteristics required of these power supply ICs, ROHM established the ultra-high-speed pulse control technology "Nano Pulse Control" for low-voltage output in 2017 and the high-speed load response technology "QuiCur" for stable operation in 2021. QuiCur" for stable operation in 2021. By incorporating QuiCurtechnology into ROHM's new products for the first time, we have achieved industry-leading ultra-stable operation in an automotive secondary-side DC-DC converter IC with the same performance.
The new product meets the needs for small size, 4A output current, switching operating frequency of 2MHz or more, and 0.6V low-voltage output required for secondary-side*2 power supply applications for SoCs (System on a Chip) and microcontrollers with increasing performance. Moreover, by incorporating ROHM's own high-speed load response*3 technology, "QuiCur", the output voltage fluctuation is reduced by 25% compared to a conventional product with the same function to 30mV for ultra-stable operation (test conditions: output voltage 1.2V, output capacitance 44µF, load current fluctuation 0 This makes it very suitable for high-end ADAS applications with severe power conditions (stable operation within ±5% even under low voltage output conditions).
In addition, a response performance selection function is built in as a new feature, which can be easily switched between "voltage fluctuation amount priority (ultra-stable operation in the industry)" and "reduced capacitance priority (stable operation with small 22µF capacity)" by pin setting. The expected stable operation can be easily achieved not only at the time of initial design, but also at the time of specification or model change, thus contributing to a significant reduction in power supply circuit design time.
Samples of the new product will be available in June 2022 (sample price 500 yen per unit, excluding tax), and mass production is scheduled to begin in April 2023 at a tentative scale of 100,000 units per month. In addition, e-commerce sales have been launched and are available from Ameya360, Sekorm, Oneyac, RightIC and other e-commerce platforms.
ROHM plans to continue expanding its lineup of various power ICs equipped with QuiCurtechnology in the future, aiming to contribute to solving more problems in applications.
