Samsung Launches LPCAMM Specification Memory Module: 60% Shrink in Area, 70% More Efficient

        Samsung Electronics announced the launch of LPCAMM specification memory modules for PC and notebook platforms. These memory sticks are based on LPDDR particles and offer a 50% increase in performance, a 60% reduction in area, and a 70% increase in energy efficiency compared to SO-DIMMs, which are widely used today. Samsung expects this specification of memory to be commercialized in 2024.
 
 
        Samsung said that this memory stick has already achieved a rate of 7.5Gbps, and through the Intel platform system verification. Laptops have long used either SO-DIMM memory modules, which have limitations on performance and other physical characteristics, or non-removable soldered to the motherboard, making them difficult to upgrade and replace. The new LPCAMM specification overcomes the shortcomings of LPDDR and SO-DIMM to meet the needs of more efficient, thinner and lighter computers, and the removable design provides greater flexibility to reduce the amount of space taken up by the motherboard and effectively utilize equipment space.
        Samsung believes that the specific power saving of LPDDR memory will attract server adoption, which can reduce TCO energy consumption. However, replacing LPDDR specification memory requires replacing the entire motherboard, bringing an increase in cost. the small size and removable nature of LPCAMM memory modules are expected to become the preferred solution for servers and data centers, in addition to being used at the consumer end.
        Samsung announced that LPCAMM will undergo validation testing with key customers in 2023, with commercialization planned for 2024.
