SK Hynix localizes the supply of neon and other key gases required for chip production

        SK Hynix said on Wednesday that it had successfully used neon gas from local suppliers for 40% of its chip production, according to The elec.
 
 
        The chip giant said that its goal is to fully use neon resources from South Korea by 2024. SK Hynix has until recently relied entirely on imported neon gas, which is used in the lithography process of wafer manufacturing.
        Neon mixed with other gases to make excimer laser gas; Excimer laser is a short wave infrared laser used to draw circuit patterns on the laser.
        However, due to the global geopolitical problems in recent years, the price of this gas has soared, leading Korean memory chip manufacturers to prepare this material locally.
        The company has successfully developed neon as an alternative source in cooperation with South Korea's TEMC and Posco. SK Hynix said that it would be able to stabilize supply and save costs.
        SK Hynix also said that it planned to localize the supply of krypton and xenon used in the etching process from next June.
