STMicroelectronics' new family of MCUs STM32H5 boosts performance and security for next-generation smart applications

        The STM32H5 chip family of high-performance microcontrollers was recently announced. The new family introduces STM32Trust TEE Security Manager security technology to bring advanced security features to smart IoT devices.
 
 
       The new STM32H5 MCU family is powered by Arm®'s Cortex®-M33 embedded core, which combines high performance, security, power efficiency and affordability, making it the microcontroller of choice for mid-range applications on MCUs. 250 MHz, with a processing speed of 375 DMIPS and an excellent score of 1023 points in the EEMBC CoreMark® industry benchmark.
        The STM32H5 family is designed to accelerate the transformation of next-generation smart IoT device innovations, enabling more intelligence in "edge" devices and strengthening the attack defense capabilities of IoT devices. Semiconductor's proprietary range of security features, including some developed in collaboration with licensing partner ProvenRun. 
        The STM32H5 is the first MCU family on the market where customers can access system-on-chip (SoC) security services through an industry-standard API. The tool, called STM32Trust TEE Secure Manager, eliminates the need for developers to write their own security code, while providing security services developed according to existing best practices. The tool simplifies application development while ensuring effective protection.

        Increased computing performance is inevitably accompanied by increased power dissipation, and the STM32H5 MCUs refresh developers' previous perceptions by leveraging ST's advanced 40nm CMOS process and improved on-chip power conversion circuitry to improve power efficiency. With these MCUs, power dissipation is no longer a design constraint when using devices with operating frequencies up to 250MHz in harsh environments with ambient temperatures up to 125°C. In addition, the STM32H5 MCUs are Safety Integrity Level (SIL)-compliant for devices with hard SIL requirements, and the chip's native hardware functionality is geared toward a variety of industrial and medical applications.
        Typical applications for the new MCUs include home appliances such as air conditioners, appliances, alarms, industrial programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motor control, industrial pumps, communication ga teways, lighting control and power conversion. Target applications also include consumer electronics, such as PC peripherals, smartphones and accessories.
