According to Japanese media reports, a power outage during a facility inspection has halted work at one of Toshiba's MCU plants, and it is expected that work will not resume until September 17 (production will resume to the level before the power outage).
Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage, a subsidiary of Toshiba's semiconductor business, announced on September 12 that its semiconductor production site in Iwate Prefecture was shut down on the 11th due to a power outage that occurred during an inspection of the power facility on the 11th.
The plant that was shut down due to the power outage is the Iwate plant of Toshiba's group company Japan Semiconductor, which produces general-purpose MCUs used in automotive equipment and consumer products.
The power outage did not cause any damage to the Iwate plant's production facilities, and in order to restart production, the plant has been restarted one by one, with the goal of resuming full production on September 17 (production resumed to pre-power outage levels).
The Japanese media pointed out that the power outage will not only allow some of the semi-finished products (work in progress) being produced on the production line to be scrapped, but it will also take time to resume work, so it is expected that shipments to customers will be affected.
