Tesla's Shanghai Plant to Continue Production Cuts in January 2023

        It is understood that Tesla's Shanghai factory originally planned to suspend production from December 24. But then came the news that Tesla's Shanghai factory will produce for 17 days during January 3-19 and stop production from January 20-31.
 
 
        It is worth noting that this Tesla production shutdown is longer than the 7-day legal holiday of Chinese New Year. At this time, Tesla has not announced the reason for the production slowdown. It is also unclear to the outside world whether work outside the Model 3 and Model Y assembly lines at the Shanghai plant will continue during the planned shutdown.
        The foreign media said that according to sources, in the past week, Tesla's Shanghai factory capacity was mainly used to produce export models. Suspending production for the year-end holidays is not a usual practice at Tesla's Shanghai plant.
        But on Sunday, Tesla China officials interviewed by the media said that the entire vehicle production next week as planned for the annual production line maintenance work, so during the maintenance of the production line also for staff recuperation. The Shanghai factory's charging pile and other workshops have not stopped the line, so it is not entirely accurate to say that the factory is shut down.
        According to the information, Tesla Shanghai factory is its largest overseas factory. 2021 annual Tesla deliveries increased by 87%, creating a delivery record of about 936,200 units. Of that total, the Shanghai mega-factory delivered 484,130 units, up 235 percent year-over-year, accounting for 51.7 percent of Tesla's total annual global deliveries. 2022, in August, Tesla upgraded its Shanghai plant to increase capacity to 1 million units per year.
