Samsung to Give Priority to Cooperation with Canon Tokki

        Samsung will prioritize a partnership with Canon Tokki for its Gen 8.5 IT project in hopes of providing OLED panels for Apple's future iPad, according to information disclosed by OLED-info.
        In the past year or so, Samsung plans to build a Gen 8 OLED IT line as the company looks to expand its production capacity for OLED displays for monitors, laptops and tablets, the report said.

        As Samsung Display Company SDC has two ongoing R&D projects:one with Ulvac using full-cut vertical OLED deposition and the other with Canon Tokki using half-cut horizontal deposition. According to the latest reports from Korea, SDC decided to prioritize the Canon Tokki half-cut project because the technology is more mature and more likely to be completed according to Apple's roadmap.
        Samsung's Canon Tokki project uses a dual-stack (tandem) architecture rather than the single-stack architecture developed with Ulvac. This is based on Apple's requirements, as it wants to extend the life of the panel.
