Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, the two largest semiconductor manufacturers, now have three subsidiaries in the country engaged in the semiconductor business, but all three companies saw their profits decline significantly in the first half of the year against a backdrop of still strong demand for semiconductor components.
Samsung Electronics has two subsidiaries in China on the semiconductor side, located in Xi'an and Shanghai.
In a report, South Korean media said that Samsung Electronics released the annual report of its semiconductor business unit on Thursday, local time. The report showed that their semiconductor company in Xi'an had revenue of 4.86 trillion won in the first half of the year, up 54.8 percent year-on-year, but net profit of 321.64 billion won was less than half of the 7,666.51 billion won it made in the same period last year, down 58.1 percent.
Samsung Electronics' Shanghai-based semiconductor company, whose main business is the sale of semiconductors and panels, posted a net profit of 138.26 billion won in the first half of the year, also less than the 175.73 billion won it made in the same period last year, down 21 per cent year-on-year. Sales also fell by 13.6 per cent to 1.3 trillion won, compared with the same period last year.
