TSMC Exclusively Takes Orders for AMD's Raider 7000 Processor

Recently, AMD Chairman and CEO Zifeng Su publicly stated that the 5nm Raider 7000 processor with Zen 4 architecture will be available in the third quarter of this year. At the same time, AMD will expand its 5nm product lineup and will be exclusively undertaken by TSMC. With the shipment of the new generation of 5nm products and the continued advancement of the diversified business model, the 5nm chip process is expected to further continue to grow in the second half of the year, said Su Zifeng.
Recently announced AMD's second quarter earnings show that the quarterly turnover of $6.6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 70%, the client business unit turnover of $2.2 billion, an increase of 25%, while the sharp dragon mobile processor is the client business unit turnover of a major "contributor". Last year's operating income of $538 million for the same period, accounting for 31% of revenue, the operating income of $676 million for the quarter, accounting for 32% of revenue. In addition, AMD's Zen 5 architecture will also be launched in 2024.
Previously, the sharp dragon 5000 due to chip capacity problems and fell into shortage crisis, resulting in shipments were affected, in order to ensure the shipment of sharp dragon 7000, this time AMD ordered a large number of TSMC 5nm process capacity. It is reported that AMD's 5nm capacity scale in TSMC is expected to reach the level of 20,000 wafers / month, while TSMC's 5nm capacity is at most 100,000 pieces / month level, occupying TSMC 5nm 1/5 monthly capacity.
It is understood that the sharp dragon 7000 compared to the previous generation of processors IPC improvement of 10%, single-core performance increased by about 15%, the performance per watt than Zen 3 higher than 25%, comprehensive performance higher than 35%. However, there are voices in the industry that this group of data compared to the Zen 3 and Zen 2 improvement is not bright.
