According to Taiwan Economic Daily, TSMC replaced Samsung and won a large order for Tesla Assisted Driving (FSD) chips, which will be produced at 4/5nm. TSMC did not comment on this.
It is said that Tesla is expected to become the top seven customers of TSMC next year, which is also the first time that new energy vehicle enterprises have emerged among the main customers of TSMC.
At present, Tesla is committed to developing the Full Self Driving Computer (FSD), which uses self-developed chips and integrates high-speed computing, AI and other functions.
Before that, Tesla adopted a multi supplier strategy and placed orders in TSMC and Samsung. esla's previous generation of driver assistance chips were produced at 14nm, mainly in the Samsung Austin factory, which was also called Hardware 3.0, and later upgraded to a 7nm process.
According to the information previously released, the image processing speed of Hardware 3.0 is 21 times faster than that of Hardware 2.5, and the cost of the hardware is 20% lower than that of Hardware 2.5. In addition, old car owners can upgrade for free.
Among them, Tesla's self-developed full-automatic driving FSD chip can reach 144TOPS, and eight cameras supporting Full Self Driving Computer chip will complete visual processing.
In addition, it has been reported that Tesla is working with TSMC to develop the next generation hardware platform, which has a performance three times that of the current model.
