Vietnamese automaker VinFast has been forced to delay the launch of its VF 8 and VF 9 electric SUVs in Europe from the second half of 2022 to early 2023 due to a global semiconductor shortage, according to a media report.

In an email, the company said, "The disruption in the global chip supply chain has impacted VinFast and our production and delivery plans in Europe." The company also added that it is working with suppliers to begin exporting cars to Europe and Canada "in the coming months.
While deliveries in Europe have been delayed, VinFast last week began shipping the first 999 VF 8 midsize SUVs to the U.S. The electric SUVs will be shipped to California and then delivered to U.S. customers in late December of this year, the company said in a statement. The company's deliveries in Europe will begin in Germany, France and the Netherlands. VinFast is also considering an initial public offering (IPO) in the U.S. as soon as January 2023, according to reports.
At this year's Paris Motor Show, VinFast presented four all-electric vehicles: the VF 6 compact crossover, the VF 7 compact crossover, the VF 8 midsize SUV and the VF 9 large SUV. Next year it will begin taking orders for the VF 7 and VF 6.
Mercier, who is vice president of VinFast Europe, declined to say exactly when he would start taking reservations. It's unclear whether the delivery delay will affect VinFast's plans to open multiple stores in Europe. The company revealed that it opened its first flagship store in Cologne, Germany, earlier this month, as well as its first store in France, in Paris.

VinFast will also be opening stores in Amsterdam (Netherlands), Berlin (Germany), Mu nich (Germany), Frankfurt (Germany) and Hamburg (Germany).
