Vishay Introduces Automotive-Grade Miniature Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors to Improve System Design Flexibility and Save Board Space

        Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announces a new series of low-impedance, automotive-grade miniature aluminum electrolytic capacitors, the 172 RLX, offering higher performance than previous-generation solutions and a reduced form factor. They are available in 14 form factors from 10 mm x 12 mm to 18 mm x 40 mm, with a ripple current of up to 4.9 A, operating at +105 °C and a lifetime of up to 10,000 hours.
        Compared to previous generation solutions, the recently released capacitors comply with the AEC-Q200 standard, have smaller form factors, lower impedance for a given package and voltage, higher capacity and 54% higher ripple current for the same rated capacitance-voltage (CV). For example, while the previous generation solution of 1000 mF / 10 V rated CV devices had a ripple current of 1100 mA in a 10 mm x 16 mm package, the 172 RLX series capacitors have a ripple current of 1700 mA in a 10 mm x 12 mm package, thus allowing designers to use fewer components, increasing design flexibility and saving board space.

        The 172 RLX series capacitors feature radial leaded, blue sleeve-insulated cylindrical aluminium cases with voltage reduction, rated voltages up to 50 V, capacities from 150 μF to 15 000 μF and impedances down to 0.011 W at +20 °C. The capacitors are charge and discharge proof.
        As polarised aluminium electrolytic capacitors with a non-solid electrolyte, these RoHS-compliant devices are suitable for smoothing, filtering and buffering in switching power supplies, DC/DC converters, motor drives, control units in industrial, automotive, communication, audio-video and electronic data processing (EDP) applications.
