Vishay Intertechnology, Inc(NYSE: VSH) announced today that it has upgraded its TSOP2xxx, TSOP4xxx, TSOP57xxx, TSOP6xxx and TSOP77xxx series of infrared (IR) receiver modules for infrared remote control applications with the next-generation Cyllene 2 IC. The new ICs are designed to ensure long-term product availability and shorten lead times, and help designers significantly reduce supply currents over a wider supply voltage range while improving reliability against ESD and direct sunlight.

Recently released enhanced Vishay Semiconductors receivers can be used for televisions, set-top boxes (STB), audio and game consoles, air conditioners and other appliances, as well as industrial automation control, lighting systems and other applications of infrared remote control. For the remote control function of these products, the device enhances various anti-interference capabilities, such as infrared radiation from fluorescent lamps and RF radiation from Wi-Fi antennas on circuit boards.
The enhanced devices allow designers to replace legacy receiver modules in a plug-and-play fashion with supply voltages from 2.0 V to 5.5 V and a 50% reduction in typical supply current to 0.35 mA, extending battery life in mobile consumer electronics such as robotic vacuum cleaners. The device improves reliability with ESD resistance up to 12 kV (human body model) while resisting interference from direct sunlight, improving performance in outdoor applications such as garage door light barrier systems.
To simplify design, the receiver integrates the photodetector, preamplifier circuitry, and IR filter in a single epoxy molded (TSOP2xxx and TSOP4xxx), Belobog (TSOP57xxx), Panhead (TSOP6xxx), or Heimdall (TSOP77xxx) package. The device carrier frequency is 30 kHz to 56 kHz and different automatic gain control (AGC) versions are available for long burst or short burst encoding. The receivers are RoHS and Vishay Green compliant, halogen free, and have excellent ripple noise immunity.
The upgraded IR receiver module is now available for sampling and in volume production with an 8-week lead time.
