Recently, the European Parliament adopted a plan to secure the EU's chip supply by boosting production and innovation, and set out urgent measures to deal with chip shortages.
The legislation will support projects to improve the security of supply in the EU by attracting investment and building capacity. In talks with Council representatives, MEPs secured 3.3 billion for research and innovation related to chips. A network of competence centers will be created to address skills shortages in the EU and attract new research, design and production talent.
The EU aims to quadruple chip production by 2030, giving the EU a 20% global chip share. It is reported that the EU intends to invest more than 43 billion euros in public and private investment to achieve the goal of chip manufacturing.
In the long run, the prospects for the chip industry are still looking forward. Yoshitaka Kitao, representative director, president and CEO of Japan's SBI Holdings Corporation (SBI), noted that "the world semiconductor market will reach 100 trillion yen by 2030." In order to accelerate the implementation of the chip program, in addition to the EU, Japan is also actively providing favorable conditions for semiconductor development.
According to the Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK) recently reported that Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has developed a new system to subsidize the construction of facilities such as water purification plants and water pipelines required for industrial water, aiming to ensure that semiconductor production of industrial water required.
Thereafter, Japan will also consider specific systems, such as support for improving the management efficiency of companies by delegating management to private companies.
