According to DIGITIMES, the German automotive semiconductor supplier Infineon said in a recent conference call that after acquiring more wafers, the supply of automotive MCU is expected to improve in the second half of 2023.
Infineon reiterated the differentiation of the semiconductor market. The demand for semiconductors in the fields of automobile, renewable energy and security is still strong, while the demand for consumer products has slowed down periodically, and the spending of enterprises on IT infrastructure is weak.
It is learned that Infineon said that with the continuous growth of electric travel and ADAS, customers are now more willing to sign capacity retention agreements or place longer commitment orders to ensure the supply of semiconductors. OEMs now "have a strong tendency" to purchase strategic components directly and strive to improve inventory levels.
In order to meet this demand, Infineon said that it was increasing the sales rate to nearly 1 million pieces per day. For fiscal year 2023, the capacity of auto products has been fully booked.
Despite seeing strong developments in the automotive and renewable energy sectors, Infineon is still cautious about the coming quarters and is preparing for the macroeconomic slowdown caused by inflation in the context of interest rate hikes.
