Infineon Technologies and Oxford ionics announced that they will work together to build a fully integrated high-performance quantum processor (QPU). The unique electronic quantum bit control (EQC) technology of Oxford ionics, combined with Infineon's world leading engineering and manufacturing capabilities and its technical expertise in quantum technology, will lay the foundation for the industrialized production of quantum processors with hundreds of quantum bits in the next five years. The cooperation between the two sides aims to transform quantum computing technology from laboratory to application field and into a real industrial solution.

Many industries are seeking to fundamentally improve their processes and capabilities, and quantum computing will usher in a new e ra of computing power for them. To achieve this goal, we need to develop quantum bit technology that can be produced on a large scale. At the same time, we need to control more and more quantum bits and keep the quantum error at the lowest or even lower level so far. Using the EQC technology of Oxford ionics, ion trap qubits can be integrated into Infineon's mature semiconductor process. In terms of quantum error level, ion trap quantum bit is a very advanced quantum bit technology at present.
Chris balance, co-founder of Oxford ionics, said: "The great challenge of the application of quantum computing is to achieve large-scale production and improve performance. Some technologies can be mass produced, but the performance is not good; some technologies meet the requirements in terms of performance, but can not achieve large-scale production. Our electronic control technology has unique advantages, and can achieve these two points at the same time. With Infineon's mature and highly flexible semiconductor process, we can accelerate quantum computing." Commercial use of processors. Because our quantum error rate is in the leading position in the market, the number of quantum bits required by these processors to solve practical problems is significantly reduced compared with other technologies. "
The first devices of Oxford ionics will be connected to the cloud by the end of 2022, providing business users with the opportunity to access and use these cutting-edge quantum computers in the cloud. The company plans to launch fully integrated devices with high enough performance and scalability to hundreds of qubits within two years. Infineon and Oxford ionics' ultimate goal is to provide fully integrated quantum processors with hundreds of quantum bits within five years, and connect them together through Oxford ionics' quantum networking technology, so as to form a quantum supercomputing cluster.
