On January 29th, KIOXIA America, a global provider of memory solutions, announced the industry's first sampling of Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 4.0 embedded flash devices designed specifically for automotive applications. These new, higher-performance devices deliver fast embedded storage transfer speeds in a small package size and are targeted at a variety of next-generation automotive applications including telematics, infotainment and ADAS. KIOXIA's new UFS products offer performance improvements of approximately 100% sequential read speeds and approximately 40% sequential write speeds, enabling these applications to take advantage of 5G connectivity for faster system boot times and better user experience. system boot times and deliver a better user experience.
As the company that pioneered UFS technology,
KIOXIA will continue to drive the technology forward. Its new UFS 4.0 devices integrate the company's innovative BiCS FLASH™ 3D flash memory and controller in a JEDEC-standard package.UFS 4.0 integrates MIPI M-PHY 5.0 and UniPro 2.0 to support theoretical interface speeds of up to 23.2Gbp/s per channel or 46.4Gbp/s per device.UFS 4.0 is also UFS 4.0 is also compatible with UFS 3.1.
The new KIOXIA devices support the High Speed Link Start Sequence (HS-LSS) feature, which enables link startup (M-PHY and UniPro initialization sequences) between the device and the host to take place at a faster HS-G1 Rate A (1248Mbp/s) than traditional UFS. The link boot time is expected to be reduced by approximately 70% compared to the conventional method.
UFS 4.0 comes with new advanced features and functionality to meet the requirements of demanding automotive applications, including:
·Refresh Function: Improves data reliability by refreshing degraded data, preventing data corruption even in harsh, demanding in-vehicle environments.
Extended Diagnostics: Enables users to view important information about the UFS device so they can take preventative action.
·The new devices are available in 128, 256 and 512 GB capacities, support a wide temperature range, meet AEC-Q100 Level 2 requirements, and have the enhanced reliability features required for complex automotive applications.
Maitry Dholakia, vice president of KIOXIA's Memory Business Unit, said, "KIOXIA further demonstrates leadership in UFS memory with the introduction of the industry's first UFS 4.0 device for automotive applications. The accelerated processing power and greater data storage capacity offered by UFS 4.0 will enable next-generation automotive systems to take advantage of 5G, IoT and artificial intelligence."
