Meta's Own AI Chip Uses RISC-V Architecture

        Media reports that Meta's self-developed AI chip has attracted attention in the market after adopting RISC-V with open source architecture. According to industry analysis, RISC-V, which is an open source architecture, is favored by the industry because of its three major advantages, including low power consumption, high openness, and relatively low development costs.
 
 
        The report pointed out that Meta only uses its self-developed AI chip MTIA in its own data center to speed up AI computing and inference. Therefore, with a high degree of customization, not only can it ensure computing power, but it is also expected to achieve low power consumption with the characteristics of RISC-V architecture. In this case, the power consumption of each RISC-V core is expected to be less than 25W, and Meta can utilize the RISC-V architecture with GPU gas pedals or the Arm architecture to achieve an overall reduction in the power consumption of the overall configuration and higher computing power.
        As a matter of fact, RISC-V architecture is gradually emerging and starting to enter the AI chip market, becoming the third computing program and architecture besides x86 and Arm. Currently, Meta has confirmed that it has adopted IC design giant JCS's RISC-V architecture to develop its AI chips, showing that it already has high-speed computing capabilities and is capable of mass production in advanced processes.
        In this regard, global market research firm TrendForce said that the overall AI chip market is still dominated by GPUs (e.g. NVIDIA, AMD, etc.), followed by Arm, etc. RISC-V architecture has been invested in data centers over the past few years, and with the input of NVIDIA and CSPs, RISC-V is expected to become another niche market that may RISC-V is expected to become another niche market, possibly focusing on the open source AI market (e.g., Meta), or other enterprise niche applications.
