SK Hynix's acquisition of Key Foundry into the closing process will greatly increase the production capacity

         According to etnews, SK Hynix's acquisition of key foundry has been approved by relevant institutions and has begun to enter the closing stage. It is reported that after the completion of the acquisition of key foundry, SK Hynix will become the second largest wafer foundry manufacturer in South Korea after Samsung Electronics. At the same time, SK Hynix also hopes to become one of the top ten wafer foundry manufacturers in the world.
 
 
        In October 2021, SK Hynix signed a relevant agreement, saying that it would acquire all the shares of key foundry at a price of 575.8 billion won (about 3billion yuan), so as to enhance its influence. Before the acquisition, SK Hynix had invested about 207 billion won (about 1.07 billion yuan), accounting for nearly 50% of the equity of key foundry and becoming one of the main shareholders of the latter.
        It is understood that key foundry currently focuses on the 8-inch wafer production business, and its products are mainly for consumer electronics, communications, computers, automobiles and other industries and the market. At present, the company's wafer foundry capacity is about 90000 8-inch wafers per month. Although SK Hynix is famous for storage chips, it also has its own wafer foundry business, and its current capacity is about 100000 8-inch wafers per month. After the acquisition, SK Hynix's 8-inch wafer capacity will nearly double.
