According to thelec, Intel expressed confidence in the mass production of Intel 4 (7nm class), which is the first application of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) light in Intel's process. IC Knowledge, an organization specializing in reverse engineering, analyzed that the performance of Intel 4 process products is better than TSMC's 5nm process and similar to the existing 3nm process.
In a group interview held in Penang, Malaysia, on Aug. 22, William Grimm, director (vice president) of product engineering for Intel Logic Technology and Development, said, "With EUV, we can control process complexity."

Intel 4 is the first application of EUV in Intel's process, and the Meteor Lake CPU Tile, which is scheduled for release this September, is a product that will be produced through Intel 4. The industry expects issues such as yield due to the later rollout of EUV compared to competitors.
Regarding performance comparisons with competing foundries, William Grimm said, "We referenced external benchmarks for our own PPA (performance, power, area) design," adding, "It's difficult to compare Intel 4 to existing nodes from other foundries. "
According to reverse engineering firm IC Knowledge, the Intel 4 process performs similarly to Samsung Electronics 3nm and TSMC 3nm. This means that transistor integration is higher than other companies' 3nm processes. Intel has previously criticized that the process name is not the same as the actual transistor length of the semiconductor.
William Grimm described this Intel 4 node as a process with a particular focus on power efficiency. He explained, "If the Intel 7 process is a process focused on maximizing performance, this Intel 4 is focused on improving power efficiency, and it's suitable for applications such as laptops."
Finally, William Grimm said, "[EUV capacity] is sufficiently secured to meet market demand" and that "plans for the next few years, such as Intel 3, are already set." Intel 3 will use a 4nm process and is scheduled for release in the second half of this year.
