On July 6, Micron introduced new DDR5 DRAM for next-generation Intel and AMD server and workstation platforms. With DDR5 memory features, the new server and workstation systems offer an 85% performance increase over DDR4 DRAM. Micron's new DDR5 server memory maximizes the performance of AI, HPC and other data-intensive applications and workloads.
It is understood that the main benefits of Micron's new DDR5 server memory are that the new architecture nearly doubles memory bandwidth, which can significantly improve efficiency; increases JEDEC speed to 4800 MT/s, 1.5 times faster than DDR4; provides modules up to 64 GB to power memory-intensive workloads; and optimizes DDR5 through its innovative architectural improvements and module power management features overall system operation.
Micron said DDR5-enabled servers are being evaluated and tested in data center environments and are expected to be adopted at an increasing rate for the remainder of 2022. DDR5 has an entry data rate of 4800MT/s, but is expected to increase to meet future data center workload demands.
